Frequently asked questions
- How does the A-Level grade calculator work?
- Choose your subject, exam series and paper option, then enter your marks. The tool compares your total against the real Cambridge grade thresholds for that series and shows your estimated A*–E grade. It’s a study estimate, not an official result.
- Are these Cambridge grade thresholds official?
- The figures are taken from official Cambridge International grade-threshold releases and aggregated into clean tables. Thresholds can be revised, so always confirm anything important with Cambridge or your school.
- What percentage do I need for an A* at A-Level?
- There is no fixed figure — it depends on the subject and series, and the A* also depends on your A2 performance, not just the overall total. As a rough guide it sits high on the scale. Use the percentage-to-grade converter for the real number in your subject.
- How do AS and A2 combine into a full A Level?
- AS Level is the first half and can stand alone or be carried forward. A2 is the second half. Together they form the full A Level, graded A*–E, with the A* awarded for strong overall marks plus a high standard in the A2 papers.
- Why do grade boundaries change every session?
- Boundaries are set after each series so a grade means the same thing regardless of how demanding that paper was. A harder paper usually lowers the threshold; an easier one raises it.
- Is A-Level Grade Hub free?
- Yes — completely free, with no account or sign-up. Open the calculator or any subject page and start straight away.
